Animation

A Sticky Situation

This 2D animation was created as an exercise in animating dialogue. I first chose an audio track to recontextualize and animate. I selected this audio clip from Castlevania because I was rewatching the series at the time and greatly admire the animation of the show. I first redesigned the main character Trevor as an animal, making him a hunting dog as he is a monster hunter. I tried to invoke a style similar to Animal Crossing in Trevor’s redesign. I wanted to recontextualize the audio in a way that fit the tone of a less serious situation with animal characters but still stayed true to the humor and personality of the original.

Run Loop

This simple 2D animation was the first run cycle I created. I animated it as part of my first short, A Midnight Stroll. I created the animation using Photoshop and a drawing tablet. My main focus for this project was animating the full-body into a fluid run that was anatomically correct and stayed on a model for its duration. This was one of my favorite assets I created for my animated short

Remaking a Classic

This 2D animation was drawn using Procreate. I created this work to improve my skills imitating another art style, an important skill in the animation industry. I also worked on animating different principles of animation, such as squash and stretch and secondary action. I enjoyed studying Disney’s masterwork animation while creating this piece.

Changing Emotions

This 2D animation was created to strengthen my skills animating emotions. It was drawn in Procreate. I started this project by writing the script and designing the characters. I then drew the keyframes and backgrounds. I then added in-betweens, and cleaned up and exported the animation. This was my second project utilizing Procreate to create animation.

3D Walkcycle

This animation is the first 3D walk cycle I created. Using a free rig provided by my mentor Christopher Oakley, I was tasked with creating a simple, smooth, and effective walk cycle. I started by keyframing the key poses using Maya. I then added in-betweens. The last step was to clean up the animation using Maya’s graph editor. This piece helped me to get familiar with animating in Maya, specifically with rigged 3D characters.

Dodgeball

This 3D animation was created using Maya, and a free animation rig provided by Christopher Oakley. I created this animation to study the principles of animation, specifically follow-through and secondary action. The premise is relatively simple, a dodgeball game gone wrong. This piece helped me continue to grow my familiarity with animating 3D using Maya, specifically animating multiple assets at once. I first envisioned the story for the animation. I then keyframed the key poses. Lastly, I made the in-betweens and cleaned the animation up with Maya’s graph editor.
